Solomon Islands Data Protection and Privacy Legislation

About the Project

UNCTAD is supporting the Solomon Islands Ministry of Communication and Aviation in drafting the country’s Data Protection and Privacy legislation, building on the groundwork laid by UNCDF through the development of the national policy on Data Protection and Privacy.

Data protection is crucial as it safeguards individuals’ privacy by regulating how organisations collect, store, and use personal information, preventing potential harm such as identity theft, discrimination, and fraud. Additionally, it plays a vital role in building trust with customers, which is a fundamental component of establishing a reliable and secure digital economy.

Effective data protection measures not only protect citizens but also enhance the credibility of e-commerce systems, encouraging greater participation and supporting sustainable economic growth.
