Samoa launched its National E-commerce Strategy and Roadmap in Upolu on 30 September 2022. The five-year framework, which aligns to the Pacific Regional E-commerce Strategy and Roadmap and the 2050 Strategy for the Pacific Blue Continent, acknowledges that e-commerce is rapidly changing the traditional market system of the country into a digital one. It offers consumers and businesses substantial benefits, and contributes to economic diversification, revenue generation and job creation.
“The Ecommerce Strategy and Roadmap will allow us to consider digital platforms to promote goods and services and boost productivity across the economy, ease the constraints associated with Samoa’s remoteness from major markets, expand the scope for e-commerce, trade in services and entrepreneurialism, increase digital financial literacy and access to financial services,” said, Leatinu’u Wayne So’oialalo, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Labour.
The strategy was prepared as part of the project on “Accelerating the Adoption of E-commerce in the Pacific” implemented by the Pacific Islands Forum and funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) under the E-commerce Aid-for-Trade Trust Fund (Round II).
The strategy is available on the Pacific E-commerce Portal.
